Character Name: Silver (the Hedgehog)
Canon: Sonic the Hedgehog (game canon)
Canon Point: Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 - end of Silver Story
About: The setting of the Sonic universe is fairly malleable (canon plays it loose and fast with... pretty much everything, and facts can change from game to game), but generally, it's extremely similar to normal Earth, being set on an Earth-like planet with multiple different climes and countries. These countries vary enormously in culture; some are high-tech metropolises resembling futuristic Tokyo or New York City, others gothic stone settlements resembling medieval cities. That said, the technology level across the board is very high, far surpassing the level of technology in reality. Things like self-aware robots, military mechs, fully-functional space colonies and hoverboards are commonplace in this world.
While it's largely populated by humans, there are a variety of anthropomorphic animals that live there, as well. Magic exists alongside the extreme technology in the game, although few can wield it, and it is often chaotic in nature. And nature itself is a constant presence in the game, sometimes needing protection or sometimes protecting itself with its own magic powers. On top of that, aliens, time-travelers, and ancient gods and demons have all posed threats in the past.
Silver himself comes from more than two hundred years in the future of the world described, which is entirely post-apocalyptic; all cities have been reduced to near-rubble, and the entire world has turned to ash and flames. The psychic powers he has are normal for his time period, possibly implanted by utilizing some kind of technology (it's unclear), and he has to use them daily to try and fight off an enormous fire demon, Iblis, that has wreaked havoc on the entire world. Just surviving is a struggle in the future world Silver hails from.
Silver is a kid that had to grow up fast. He's only fourteen years old, yet he's out fighting for his life every day and struggling desperately to save the world. At the very beginning of his route, he mentions that the world had been destroyed since before he was born. That means that he's been living in destitution and hostility for his entire life. Thanks to that, he's pretty hardy, and a bit cynical, tending to assume that people just don't understand what he's been through or what's going on. He's very brave, willing to leap head-on into danger to accomplish what he needs to, and when the going gets tough, he tends to just roll with it instead of worrying about it, stopping just short of recklessness.
This lifestyle bred into him a deep sense of justice. Silver believes heavily in "the greater good," and he'll do just about anything for that greater good - even killing another person. After all, he's dedicated his own life to it. While his point of view on the weight of life in particular has been shaken up by the events leading up to his best friend's death, it's likely that the ends still justify the means for him in most situations.
His sense of justice loans him bravery and confidence; however, it can also make him a bit of a handful. When Silver has his mind set on something, he refuses to let anything get in the way of it. He acted very self-righteously and almost smugly about his "mission" more than once throughout the game. This isn't to say that he's arrogant and entirely ignores protests - having people stand up to him and punch holes in his idealogy can hit him very hard. However, when he's convinced he's a force of justice, he is very convinced, and can definitely be a brat about it. He'll brush off or even physically confront strangers who get in his way without reservations, usually with a bit of ego on his part. Thanks to this tendency, his first encounters with others can often leave them with a bad impression of him.
As one might infer from that, despite his rough upbringing, Silver's age still really shows. His naivete and immaturity are called out by his close friend Blaze multiple times throughout the game, and it's not just an empty insult. The aforementioned tendency to just go along with the situation at hand is mostly due to his trusting nature. If he'd been suspicious of Mephiles, who manipulated him into fighting against Sonic, he likely would have gotten to the root of the situation right when they first met; however, he was naive and believed that Mephiles really wanted to help him. Rather than being gullible, Silver suffers from a combination of being both sheltered and highly idealistic, always wanting to believe in the best future.
This immaturity is also apparent in his tendency to be highly emotional. When he's angry, he lashes out and yells, even becoming violent if pushed too far; when he's happy, he's loud and full of laughter. Perhaps surprisingly, Silver is fairly quiet in his sadness, becoming introspective; however, there is little doubt that he's hit just as hard by it as any other emotion, seen leaving to think by himself at one point and standing quietly wiping his tears at another.
In the same vein, Silver's self-confidence rests heavily on the support of his friends; this is most obvious in his relationship with Blaze, when he momentarily panics upon arriving in the past and realizing she's gone, and later at the end of the game as she sacrifices herself, where he straight-out says "I don't know what to do without you!" Additionally, when Amy, a girl he'd recently become friends with, decried him for trying to kill Sonic and basically said it was a horrible thing to do, he was left in a serious state of confusion regarding his goals. One that was only remedied when Blaze (another trusted friend) appeared and gave him a push back onto the path of their mission. Despite his bravery and determination, he's very insecure on the inside when he's out on his own in an unfamiliar situation.
Deep down, though, he's a good kid. When he's not concentrating on business, it seems he's a sweet, if rather awkward, boy. Silver is willing to help those in need with small chores, even if they're not related to the task at hand. Since he's been fighting his entire life, he's not that skilled at communicating with other people - it's almost a given that his close friendship with Blaze probably came as a result of working together for a long rather than friendly socializing. He's a little shy, particularly around forward and aggressive people (and possibly around girls in particular.)
Nonetheless, it's not crippling by any means, and he definitely has a sense of cooperation and adventure, as well as an obvious propensity for trust and deep, loyal friendship. He's had a hard life growing up, but remains completely selfless; he's willing to give up his own happiness for the sake of others'. Additionally, he's very accepting of all kinds of people - Blaze, who was noted to have been picked on since childhood for her unusual pyrokinetic powers, is his best friend, and he appears to be one of the few people she's comfortable around.
Silver only wants to do the right thing - and the right thing is, in his mind, to make as many people happy as possible.
Inventory: He'll have nothing on him but his boots and gloves. As for powers:
Silver's most notable skill is his psychokinesis, which allow him to use his mind to manipulate objects, including himself. While it does face limitations in terms of the size and number of object(s), it's quite powerful, and he's shown picking things up that are more than twenty times his own size and far heavier than himself. Though he normally relies on using the objects around him, he's also capable of concentrating this power into energy spikes and waves.
This ability also manifests itself as levitation - he can pick himself up with his psychokinesis to move. Additionally, Silver can teleport short distances, and use his powers to mentally confuse others, though not for very long - he doesn't have any true ESP or psychic abilities.
While Silver can run faster than the average human, he is by far the slowest character in the series, and prefers to use levitation and teleportation to move around. However, he does retain the strength and endurance of the other anthropomorphic critters in the series.
Using these abilities requires concentration and energy, and he cannot continue to use them indefinitely without rest. However, they are extremely powerful, allowing him to face off against Sonic and Shadow on near-equal footing, as well as take on Iblis almost by himself.
Feature Type: Silver is a Real Furry. I'm not planning on modifying him in any way. That said, I'm not sure if hedgehogs would fall under Willow or Cypress (as hedgehogs are a fairly common pet)... I'll leave it up to you guys, I guess?!
What are your plans with this character? HONESTLY I DON'T KNOW YET but I'm looking forward to having him interact with a non-destroyed setting and having him be amazed by the living world and culture! He'll get frustrated with the politics pretty fast tho.
